Reminder to Submit Claims by July 31, 2010
This year’s annual Healthcare Spending allocation will be deposited on June 1, 2010. All Full Time Faculty Union members are eligible for a new deposit of $400.
The Health Service Spending Account (HCSA) offers relief from healthcare expenses which are outside of the insured health and dental benefits.
The HCSA can be used:
- For services not fully covered under your benefit plan
- For any expense’s that qualify as a medical expenses tax credit under the Income Tax Act.
- For Nova Scotia Pharmacare premiums
Points you need to remember about the HCSA:
- The policy year runs from June 1 to May 31.
- Expenses incurred between June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2010 and to be paid from the June 2009 HCSA must be received, processed and paid by Great West Life no later than July 31, 2010. This deadline will be enforced with no exceptions, if you have expenses for the last year, still have remaining funds for 2009, and want to claim against those expenses against those funds please send your claims in immediately. To make a claim use the Health Care form on the Faculty Union Website. Check the box indicating that you want to use your HCSA funds.
- If you do not use the remainder of your June 2009 funds, these funds can be carried forward with the new deposit of $400 and used for expenses incurred after June 1, 2010. The new deposit cannot be used for expenses incurred prior to June 1, 2009.
- Just a reminder you can carry forward credits (money) from the previous year for an additional year, for example, when the June 2010 deposit is made any unused balance from the June 2008 will be forfeited, and in June 2011 any unused balance from 2009 will be forfeited, and so on.
- The HCSA covers you, your spouse and any eligible children (up to student age restrictions).
